With Dancers may perform outside their section switched on (Edit Event: Results and Scoring), a dancer who is not ready when their turn comes is skipped and scored later, and a dancer who must perform at another time is booked into an Out of section item on the schedule. Scores always belong to the dancer's own section.
Switching it on
- In-person events only. Not available together with Free Scoring Mode: switch one off before switching the other on.
- Battle and placement sections are never affected; their entries cannot be flagged.
- The explainer under the switch states the medal rule for your event. With score medals on, a dancer who performs outside the session, or pre-arranged, keeps the level their score earns, printed on their participation certificate, but cannot place. With score medals off a medal is the placement itself, so they get their scores and a participation certificate and no medal. Either way they always receive a participation certificate, even when the event issues none to other dancers.
Two kinds of dancer
- Skipped on the day. A judge taps Skip. The dancer stays in the section's queue and is usually scored a few entries later. If the section finishes without them, they go onto the judges' Out of section list and are scored at the next pause between sections or before the ceremony. If they dance before their section's awards ceremony starts they can still place; from the moment it starts they cannot. The ceremony waits for the judges' Start next section while anyone is waiting, so that pause always exists.
- Pre-arranged. You book the dancer into an Out of section item from the Out of Section Judging page. They leave the judges' section queue, their name shows on the live schedule inside the item, and they are scored from the list. They never place.
- Skipped, then booked. Booking a skipped dancer into an Out of section item keeps them a skipped dancer. Scored before their section's awards ceremony starts, on the day of their section, they can still place. Scored in the item on another day, they are scored but cannot place.
A booking on a later day can be scored early. A booked dancer stays on the judges' Out of section list from the moment you book them, whatever day their item is on. Until they are scored, every section change and awards ceremony on that stage, on each day before their booking, waits for the judges to press Start next section, so the judges always have a gap to score them in. A dancer scored before their booked day loses the booking, so the later day's MC page, music page and live schedule do not list them again. If you do not want the stage to wait for a dancer on the days before their booking, book them into an item on the same day instead, or remove the booking until that day.
Placing Out of section items
In the Schedule Builder, use the Add Out of section item button under Add non-performance item. While the mode is off the button is greyed out; tap it to see where to switch the mode on, with a link to that setting. Place as many as you want, on any day, at any time, with the duration you choose; they drag, time and publish like a break. The MC advances through one like a break, and while it is on stage the judges' list is available. The row shows its booked dancers and a Book dancers link.
The booked dancers are listed under the item like the entries of a section, each with an estimated time. Drag them into the order they should dance, for example so a dancer in two of the booked routines does not dance them back to back; a clash shows the same warning a section does. Judges, the MC, the music page and the live schedule all follow this order once you update the schedule. Booking, moving or removing a dancer still happens on the Out of Section Judging page, not by dragging.
Only an Awards item counts as a session boundary. You do not need a break or an Out of section item to give skipped dancers a chance before the ceremony: while a skipped dancer is waiting on that stage, the ceremony does not start by itself. It stays on Starting soon until every judge has pressed Start next section, and the MC cannot start it. Mark a judge unavailable on the judges page if they cannot press.
An item with dancers booked into it cannot be deleted, cleared with the day, or wiped by a date change: move or remove its dancers first.
The Out of Section Judging page
From the event dashboard sidebar. At the top, every Out of section item with its day, time and roster. Below, every flagged dancer: kind, state, slot, placement rule, who flagged them, when they danced, which judges have scored them and which scratched them.
- Book a dancer: search the entry, then choose an item. Disabled with the reason while the schedule has no Out of section item. A skipped dancer you book stays skipped and can still place if scored before their section's awards ceremony starts; the page says so before you confirm.
- Who scores a booked or skipped dancer: the judges on that stage that day, whether or not they judged the dancer's section. You never need the dancer's own panel at the Out of section item, and you never call a judge in for one dancer. You can book dancers before any judges are assigned. If nobody is assigned on that stage that day yet, the page warns you when you book and the dancer's row says so until you assign judges there, because nobody can score the dancer until then. "On that stage that day" means a judge assigned to a section scheduled on that stage that day. On a day with no section on that stage, every judge of the event who is not marked unavailable scores there. A judge who finished their own sections and left still counts until you mark them unavailable on the judges page; the MC page and the Close Day panel name who is missing. A skipped dancer scored in the same session by other judges can still place.
- Move a booking to another item, Remove a booking, Unflag a skipped dancer nobody has scored yet (they return to their section's queue), Export CSV.
Close of day
The Close Day panel blocks only on an out of section dancer who is on stage and still being scored: wait for the judges to finish, or mark absent judges unavailable. Skipped and booked dancers who have not started never block a close. They stay on the judges' Out of section list across days until they are scored, scratched, or the event ends, and nobody has to rebook them. You can still tap Move to a later day to book a skipped dancer into an Out of section item on a later day; that is optional, and the stage then waits for them at every section change on that stage until they are scored. On the last day the panel warns that dancers still on the list will stay unscored.
Reset Schedule
The danger-zone Reset Schedule also clears every out-of-section flag and booking, so dancers go back to their sections as if never flagged.
