Should I Create a Dancer or Claim an Existing One?

When to create a new dancer profile and when to claim one that already exists.

The Parent/Guardian Portal offers two ways to get a child onto your account. Picking the wrong one leaves two records for the same child, which splits their entries and results.

Create Dancer

Use this when:

  • Your child has never been on Kompdesk
  • No studio has registered them anywhere

What happens: you fill in their name, date of birth, and ID, and verify their studio's invite code. The new profile is linked to your account and to that studio.

Claim Existing Dancer

Use this when:

  • Their studio has already registered them
  • They have their own dancer account
  • They competed at an earlier event

What happens: you verify their surname, date of birth, and full ID number, confirm you are their parent or guardian, and the existing profile joins your account. No duplicate is created.

Can I Do Both?

Yes. Create one child who is new to dance and claim another who is already with a studio. They behave identically once they are on your account.

What If I Am Not Sure?

Try Claim Existing Dancer first. If nothing matches, no harm is done, and you can then create the profile.

Kompdesk also checks while you create: if a matching dancer already exists, you are offered Link This Dancer to My Account instead of a second profile. Take that offer whenever it appears.
