There are several ways a dancer can end up registered for a competition event. Understanding these routes helps studios, dancers, and guardians know what to expect.
Overview of Registration Routes
| Route | Who Does It | Portal Access? | Studio Visibility? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Studio registers dancer | Studio owner/teacher | Yes (if dancer has account) | Yes, immediate |
| Dancer self-registers | Dancer with studio code | Yes | Yes, automatic |
| Guardian registers | Parent/guardian | Yes (for guardian) | Yes, automatic |
Route 1: Studio Registers the Dancer
The most common route. The studio owner or teacher registers dancers from the studio portal.
How it works:
- Studio navigates to the event's Dancers tab
- Clicks "Register" next to a dancer from the roster (or "Add Dancer" for new dancers)
- Dancer is registered for the event with fees tracked under the studio
What gets created:
EventDancerRegistration: links dancer to event under the studioEventRegistration: grants portal access (if dancer has an account)- Fee line items under the studio's account
Portal access: The dancer can log in and see their schedule, entries, and results, but only if they have a Kompdesk account linked to your studio.
Route 2: Dancer Self-Registers (with Studio)
A dancer who has a Kompdesk account and is linked to a studio can register themselves.
How it works:
- Dancer goes to the event page and clicks "Register"
- Selects "Register as Dancer"
- Enters their studio code or selects their studio
- Registration is created with the studio link
What happens in the background:
EventRegistrationis created (portal access)EventDancerRegistrationis created with the studio ID- The dancer appears as "Registered for this event" in the studio's Dancers tab
Studio impact: The studio sees the dancer's updated status automatically. No action needed from the studio.
Route 3: Parent or Guardian Registers on Behalf
A parent or guardian with a Kompdesk account can register their child, either from the event page or from Events in their Parent/Guardian Portal.
How it works:
- The parent opens the event and presses Register, choosing the Parent/Guardian card on the event page
- Selects which of their children to register
- Completes registration with studio affiliation, or as an independent dancer where the event allows it
What happens in the background:
- Same as dancer self-registration: both
EventRegistrationandEventDancerRegistrationare created - The studio dashboard reflects the registration automatically
Portal Access Requirements
To access the dancer portal for an event, a user must have:
- A Kompdesk account (platform registration)
- An active EventRegistration for that specific event
If a dancer is removed from an event by a studio or organizer, their EventRegistration is deleted and they will see a "Not Registered" message when trying to access the portal. They must re-register to regain access.
What Studios Should Know
- Self-registration is reflected automatically: when an affiliated dancer or their guardian registers, your Dancers tab updates
- You control removal: use "Remove from Event" in the Dancers tab. It lists the dancer's entries and only removes the dancer once each entry has been deleted or edited
- Re-registration is possible: if a dancer is removed and needs to come back, they (or you) can register again, but entries and scores must be recreated
- Roster is permanent: removing a dancer from an event does NOT remove them from your studio roster
