Kompdesk supports awards beyond the standard placements (1st / 2nd / 3rd by section). Use them for special recognition like "Best Choreography", automatic top-score trophies, and gala evening showcases.
The Award Types
| Type | Who decides the winner | When the winner appears |
|---|---|---|
| Judge Nomination | Judges nominate entries on their scorecard | As nominations come in |
| Top Score in Section | Calculated automatically: highest score in one section | Once that section is locked (scores finalised) |
| Top Score Overall | Calculated automatically: highest score across the whole event | Only after all schedule days are completed |
| Gala Evening Nomination | Judges flag standout performances for the gala | As nominations come in |
Judge Nomination vs Top Score: "Judge Nomination" awards rely on judges choosing recipients. "Top Score" awards need no manual input. Kompdesk ranks entries by their scores automatically.
Where Awards Live
Awards touch three places in the app:
- Setup: Configure custom awards and gala nominations in the Competition Wizard (Step 12: Custom Awards) when creating an event, or later in the Event Editor → Awards Settings section. See the How to Add a Custom Award article.
- Scoring: Judges nominate entries for "Judge Nomination" and gala awards directly on their scorecards (when those awards, or the gala toggle, are enabled).
- Results: Winners and nominees appear on the Awards tab of the Results page, populated automatically from scores and nominations. See the Awards and Winners Management article.
Gala Evening
The gala evening is a separate, optional showcase. Turn on "Allow Judges to Nominate for Gala Evening" and judges get a "Nominate for Gala" option on every scorecard. Nominated performances are collected for you to review and build a gala line-up.
Key Rules
- Top Score Overall is hidden until every schedule day is marked completed, so the award reflects the true event-wide top scorer.
- Top Score in Section and placement awards only appear once the relevant section is locked (its schedule slot marked complete and scores finalised). A winner can't be declared while judges can still change scores.
- You never assign Top Score winners by hand. They follow the scores. You only configure the awards.
