If a judge can't make it (sickness, technical issue, scheduled break) the organizer can mark them offline for the rest of the day. The system then excludes them from the "all judges submitted" gate, so sections can complete with the remaining panel.
Why This Matters
Sections complete when all assigned judges have submitted scores. If one judge is unavailable but still listed as assigned, the section hangs. Judges' devices keep waiting for the missing submission.
Marking the judge offline tells the schedule sync: "this judge is excluded from this day's denominator." Sections can then complete with the remaining panel.
Where to Toggle
Organizer dashboard → Judges panel → toggle
Each judge row shows their current online/offline state. Tap the toggle to flip it.
The MC portal also exposes the toggle, so the MC can mark a judge offline without leaving the live event interface.
What Changes Behind the Scenes
The toggle writes a JudgeDayStatus row keyed on (scheduleDayId, judgeId) with isOnline = false. The schedule-sync logic then:
- Excludes the offline judge from the section completion gate (
submittedCount >= totalActiveJudgesinstead of total assigned). - Excludes the offline judge's missing scores from the close-day breakdown.
- Logs the toggle to the EventAuditLog so there's a paper trail of who was offline when.
The judge's previously-submitted scores still count. Only their future scoring is excluded.
Bringing a Judge Back Online
Toggle the same control to bring them back. They can resume scoring immediately. Sections that already completed without them stay completed; new sections include their scores.
When Not to Use This
- Don't use this for "judge is briefly walking away from their device". It's for full-day absences.
- Don't use it as a workaround for a stuck section. If a section is hanging, first check that the judge's device hasn't gone offline (network issue). The queue might just be replaying. Marking them offline mid-section permanently excludes their scores for the remaining entries.
Notification
The judge's device shows a banner when they're marked offline:
The organizer has marked you offline for this day. Your future scores won't count. Contact the organizer if this is in error.
This avoids confusion if the judge is still trying to score.
